My Motivation

"The least they could do is speak English."

The motivation behind this project came from two videos showing a male attorney at a restaurant threatening to call I.C.E on a worker who was speaking Spanish to a customer. One of the significant things that he said, while he was caught on camera ranting, was "I pay for their welfare. I pay for their ability to be here. The least they could do is speak English." This part of the video made me wonder what is it about a person's ability to speak a language other than English bothersome to this man.

My wondering led me to want to find out for myself from people that were born in a different country or have parents that were born in a different country, many of which are friends of mine, about what they think about bilingualism/multilingualism and how they think bilingualism/multilingualism is viewed in the U.S.
